Before you are a president,
Before you are a senator,
Before you are a representative,
Before you are a governor,
Before you are a mayor,
You are a human.
Humans were also once young students, sitting in a classroom, and thinking that school was a safe place.

Americans are desensitized to school shootings because it has sadly become our culture and is recognized as a normality within society.
This did not change on February 14th, 2018:
I should of cried. Instead I’m angry. Angry at you. Angry YOU took Alyssa Alhadeff (14), Scott Beigel (35), Martin Duque (14), Nicholas Dworet (17), Aaron Feis (37), Jaime Guttenberg (14), Chris Hixon (49), Luke Hoyer (15), Cara Loughran (14), Gina Montalto (14), Joaquin Oliver (17), Alaina Petty (14), Meadow Pollack (18), Helena Ramsay (17), Alex Schachter (14), Carmen Schentrup (16), Peter Wang (15). I am angry — you took me.
Do you see the issue or do you see no problem?
Do you want to protect guns or do you choose to protect children?
Do you want gun control?
We want reform.
I say this not only as a high school senior from iPreparatory Academy in Miami Florida, but also as a citizen of the United States of America.
I urge you:
WE elect YOU. WE chose YOU. WE rely on YOU.
Students have responded to the emotions evoked by recent tragic events through poetry.
