IT, adapted from the Stephen King novel of the same name, takes place in the small town of Dairy, Indiana during 1984. Everything is peaceful until, suddenly, kids start going missing, people are dying, and a small band of misfits (our main cast) begin to have disturbing visions of a clown.
This movie was phenomenal. With the movie’s distinct 80’s setting, everything always felt in place. From the New Kids on the Block references to the arcade, it really does feel like you’re in the 80s. All the children have excellent chemistry, and almost all of the exchanges felt incredibly natural.
The most interesting thing about this movie, in my opinion, is that it actually feels like two separate films when watched. You have the horror movie scenes, where the kids are trying to defeat the evil clown, otherwise known as Pennywise, who is demonizing the town. And then you have a more coming-of-age theme, where the movie showcases kids being kids having fun with each other. This technique makes everything feel much more intense. The jokes seem funnier, the spooks seem scarier.
This movie is a perfect cocktail of horror and comedy, if you’re too scared to watch something heavier. I give this movie a solid 4.5/5!
