By Dylan Nordhagen, Sophomore When I started my sophomore year at iPreparatory Academy, I initially imagined that it would end up feeling like part of the same cycle I was used to. Although I enjoyed my time in middle school immensely, I couldn’t help but feel like the years blended together in my memory, and I often found myself unsure as to what events occurred when. After I had become familiar with the schedule of high school and how it was different, I assumed that I already knew everything I needed to make it through the next three years. However, this did not end up being true—10th grade ended up providing a much different experience than my freshman year. I’ve also come to believe that the same will be true for 11th and 12th grade, making high school an evergreen era when compared to previous school divisions.
More than ever, iPrep pushed us to look into our distant future. Initially, I was hesitant to put much thought into things that would only affect me in the coming years. The amount of work required to complete 7 classes was gargantuan, and adding more stress onto that seemed like a disastrous idea. Since then, however, I have realized the importance of preparation in advance. From writing resumes to taking advanced placement classes and exams, I often considered the future possibilities and consequences of events as much as their current applications. One example of this is the internship process; although it has had little impact on me now, it will become a core part of my junior and senior years. As a result, I’ve had to think long and hard about where to consider applying to. That’s not to say that the entire year was nothing but work; rather, there were plenty of moments that I truly enjoyed this year. National Honor Society marked the first club I have ever joined, and having the opportunity to work with other teachers and students has been remarkable so far. Some of the extra events held this year, such as Hoop It Up or the iPrep Video Game Tournaments, are some of the most fun I’ve had with my classmates these past two years. The idea of a technology-centric school, although something that technically applies to last year as well, still worked to provide a unique experience that is improved by the many wonderful teachers and classes. My time at iPreparatory Academy continues to be an amazing experience that successfully diverges from the norm and does so with splendor. I can’t wait to see what new ideas will be introduced in the following years as my journey in high school continues!
