The month of November is widely known for cooler weather in Miami and the celebration of Thanksgiving. The definition of Thanksgiving is “the expression of gratitude,” and on the annual holiday, November 25th, we celebrate the harvest and other blessings of the past year. But, there are plenty of ways to express your gratitude and appreciation aside from once a year on Thanksgiving!
In our school, we have many different clubs and extracurricular activities for participation, but Key Club International is an interest club that specializes in giving back to the community, creating community oriented projects, and learning leadership. .
Javier Gomez, the iPrep Chapter President, explained his objectives for the need for Key Club at iPrep: He believes the purpose of Key Club is to “make a change in the community.” He states, “in our world, we are divided on so many topics and it is our responsibility to help people find the resources to catapult themselves to success. It's important that people get the help they need and have stable lives. We want to create an impactful change in Miami for generations to come.”

The Rejuvenation of Key Club
When iPrep became a high school, Key Club was one of the most active clubs. However, for 5 years, the iPrep Key Club charter was inactive. However...two fantastic students, during the initial lock down in March 2020, Javier Gomez and Samantha Peltrau, began enacting their plans to re-charter iPrep’s Key Club. Ms. Hankollari, one of iPrep’s math teachers, was the one who helped them turn their idea for a holistic community service club into reality.

We cannot wait for the new projects and ideas for this year, so stay tuned for these projects! We hope we can create an impactful change to iPrep and spread awareness on certain topics. Thank you!
