By Bianca Vucetich, Junior On March 14th, a month after the mass shooting in Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school, iPrep will be taking part of the #ENOUGH National School Walkout. The SGA has organized a 17-minute walkout at 10:00 AM on 15th terrace next to the school’s park (same location of iPrep’s “Hoop it Up”).
SGA encourages people to bring signs, take pictures/videos, and post on social media onto the tags of #ENOUGH, #NationalSchoolWalkout, and #iPrepStandsWithMSD. If you would like to make a speech or lead a chant/call-and-response during the event please contact SGA President Danny Greene or SGA Press Secretary Melanie Rodriguez. To sign up as a participant of the walkout go to https://actionnetwork.org/events/iprep-high-school-walkout and reserve your spot. The SGA also encourages students to write to their congressmen to voice their concerns and encourage change. Take action by writing about your personal experiences and what you’d like to change to benefit our country and keep it safe. To find your Florida Senator, go to http://m.flsenate.gov/senators/find. Another way to voice your concerns is texting ‘resist’ to the number ‘50409’. You could also send in a letter using this format: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hTbKWearZ6MMJPrmvADk-sDxhw30cmrZx7wRK0OrR60/edit?usp=sharing. Join us here in iPrep on standing for our right of safety in schools. We need precautions and rules to prevent another mass shooting, especially mass shootings in schools. The goal in this walkout isn’t to take rights away or side with either party. The goal for this national walkout is to stand together and do all that we can to defend children everywhere by preventing another tragedy from taking innocent lives.
