Hello!
I am Javier Gomez, the Vice President of the Student Government Association. It’s a pleasure to meet you!
Before we get started, I want to introduce myself to y’all! (maybe “Here’s some more about me” since you technically already introduced yourself.)
I’ve been a member of SGA for 4 years now—since Freshman year— and fell in love with everything SGA. Growing as a leader, I wanted to increase my responsibilities and ranks in the club, so for sophomore year, I campaigned and won the position of Vice President. Since then, my goal has been to bring unity in the student body. If you see me around in the hallway or around school, feel free to stop and tell me any suggestions or opinions you'd like to see happen at iPrep.
Now that you know a little about me, I will explain the goals of SGA .

What is SGA? What Are Our Goals?
Student Government Association is an organization that represents the interests of the student body, aims to improve our school, plans events, and ultimately ensures every student has a safe and great iPrep school experience. We serve as the official voice and liaison between the student body, faculty, and administration. We work and pride ourselves on creating a unified school spirit throughout our colorful hallways. Our sponsor, Mr. Sultz, said it best “[We are the] voice of the students, for the students, represented by the students.” Our goals are quite simple: build communication, evoke spirit, and keep iPrep on the map! |
Who Are The Officers & Where Can You Find Them?
Our board is composed of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Historian, Press Secretary, Freshman Senator, Sophomore Senator, Junior Senator, Senior Senator, and Homeroom Representatives—all who work together to bring SGA alive! The officers for the 2021-2022 board is as follows:
Congratulations to our newest leaders:

Elections for each homeroom representative will occur on September 29th. Homeroom representatives are the official voice for each of their homerooms. They help us collect donations and coordinate events throughout the month of October.
To find us….well, we’re always running around the halls! If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, feel free to tap us on the shoulder. Don’t be afraid, we’re nice!

SGA’s accomplishments:
Our biggest goals, year to year, are establishing events to involve iPrep students that give back to our community.
Hoop it Up, our renowned fundraiser that includes a basketball tournament, mini-games, and music held in October, has become a staple in the iPrep family, where all funds go to United Way of Miami Dade— “a local movement of volunteers, advocates, partners, and donors committed to advancing the common good by mobilizing communities around education, financial stability, and health.”

To express how big this campaign is for us, we have won an award every year consecutively for almost TEN YEARS! Some of these awards include Third, Second, and First among all schools for the most amount of money fundraised. We’ve also been named NATIONAL CHAMPIONS for raising more than the anticipated amount! WE REALLY DID THAT!!! And we’ll continue to do that!
You can stop by the Fishbowl near Ms.Gonzalez’s office to see all our beautiful trophies. |
Hoop it Up will be making a comeback this year, and since it’s outside, it becomes easier to abide COVID restrictions & guidelines. Besides the major event, basketball competition, there are sponge wars, dance competitions, and hoola hoop contests that have become a favorite in the iPrep community. Plus did I mention, you get the DAY OFF school! Win-Win, eh?
Apart from Hoop it Up, we host an all-grade Homecoming dance—a formal evening of music, food, and dancing. The week leading up to our dance is Spirit Week—a week of dressing up to match a certain theme to show school unity and spirit. In the past, we’ve done Tacky Tourist, Throwback, and Mean Girls’ Day.

We also will organize Spike it Up (the same concept as Hoop it Up, but replacing basketball and Fall, with volleyball and Spring, respectively).
What Should YOU Expect For The 2020-2021 School Year: COVID hit us hard, and we cannot deny that. Unfortunately, virtual school did not allow us to host the usual events. To be honest, our officers miss it as MUCH AS YOU DO! That’s why this year we are determined to host as many events as we can. While we are still under strict COVID guidelines and protocols, we need to be as adaptable as possible. (And truthfully that's the beauty of SGA. How we are adaptable and can think BIG and PRACTICAL for the sake of others. Call it trial and error, if you will.) |
We cannot be certain of the circumstances of this pandemic, but we can confirm that we are working on everything possible to have a fun and safe year.
For example, to ensure we have our Homecoming dance this year, it will not take place in the Fall, but will be postponed to the Spring when we hope Covid protocols will be eased a bit. However, the officers and Mr. Sultz are working diligently to make sure it will happen.. DON’T PANIC Y’ALL!

Hoop it Up, Spike it Up, and other *secret* events will (ideally) happen! We hope by then, most people will be vaccinated which will result in lower positivity rates. And if that’s the case, we can get it approved! Please be patient, but get excited! The rumors are true: SGA IS BACK IN SESSION, BABY!
What’s Coming:
Other than organizing with our new leaders (Senators and Homeroom Reps), our annual United Way Campaign kicks off in October. This month-long event will honor the contributions United Way has done for the community and will be an opportunity to fundraise for their charity! We’ll have a plethora of special celebrations for a great cause.
Thank you:
We appreciate you all for being on this journey with us! We are ecstatic about what this year will bring. We look forward to a fantastic year. If you have any suggestions, comments, or concerns, you can always look for one of the officers or Mr. Sultz.
